Bathroom & Kitchen Resealing

Fresh, Clean Sealant Where It Matters Most

The sealant around your bath, shower and kitchen worktops is in constant contact with water, soap and steam. In time it discolours, grows mould, cracks or pulls away, and once that happens water can get behind it. Left alone, that can mean damp walls, loose tiles and damage to the floor, units or ceiling below.

We replace it properly for homeowners, landlords and businesses in Reading, Woodley, Earley, Wokingham, Bracknell and right across Berkshire. The old sealant comes out completely, the joint is cleaned and dried, and new sanitary silicone goes in with a neat, even line.

How We Do It

How We Reseal a Bath or Shower

Good sealant work is mostly preparation, and every reseal follows the same steps.

The result is a clean, neat and professional finish, with the room left tidy.

Get a Quote
  1. Cut out the old sealant

The old silicone is cut away from the bath, tray or worktop and from the tiles.

  2. Remove every trace

New sealant will not bond to old, so all the residue is removed from the joint.

  3. Clean the joint

Soap, grease and mould are cleaned off so the surfaces are ready to seal.

  4. Let it dry

Sealant needs a dry surface to bond, so the joint is left to dry thoroughly.

  5. Fill the bath

Where it suits the bath, it is filled with water first so the joint is sealed at its widest, and it stays full until the sealant has cured.

  6. Apply and tool

Sanitary silicone with a fungicide goes in as a continuous bead and is tooled to a smooth, even line.

  7. Leave it to cure

We'll advise on the cure time for the product used before the bath or shower is used again.

Mould and Sealant

Why Sealant Goes Mouldy

Mould in bathroom and kitchen sealant is common. It grows where moisture sits for long periods, feeds on soap and body residue, and gets into the sealant itself. Once that has happened it usually cannot be cleaned out, so the answer is to replace the sealant.

What causes it

  • Steam and condensation sitting on the sealant
  • Poor ventilation, especially with no window or extractor fan
  • Soap and body residue left on the joint
  • Water trapped behind sealant that has come away

Helping new sealant stay clean

  • Run the extractor fan or open a window during and after a bath or shower
  • Wipe the sealant dry after use when you can
  • Clean it gently and avoid harsh or abrasive cleaners
  • Let it cure fully before it gets wet
